The way we think about emotional wellbeing is changing. So too is the way people want to access support.
Counselling is no longer something people necessarily turn to only at a point of crisis. There is growing recognition of the value of having a safe, professional space to understand ourselves, navigate difficult periods and explore experiences that may continue to affect us years later.
At Child in Time, we’re responding to that shift by expanding the ways people can access therapeutic support, with the launch of two new services: Counselling Time and Adoption Support Counselling.
Counselling That Fits into Life Today
Counselling Time is a new branch of Child in Time, providing professional counselling for young people aged 13+ and adults, creating a confidential space to explore whatever may be affecting emotional wellbeing.
Anxiety, relationships, family changes, bereavement, identity, low mood and the pressures of everyday life can affect us at any age. Equally, you don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from talking to someone.
With online sessions available, Counselling Time also reflects the way many people now want to access support – with greater flexibility and without geography necessarily being a barrier.

A Greater Understanding of Adoption
Our new Adoption Support Counselling service reflects another important change: a growing understanding that adoption affects people for life and that its emotional impact can be complex.
Led by psychotherapeutic counsellor Chloe Billington, the service supports adult adoptees, adoptive parents, birth parents and prospective adopters.
Alongside her professional qualifications and specialist adoption support counselling training, Chloe brings lived experience as an adoptive parent.
The service provides a safe, informed space to explore adoption and its potential impact on identity, relationships, parenting and emotional wellbeing – whether those questions are arising now or relate to experiences from many years ago.

“People are much more open to talking about emotional wellbeing than they once were, but what they need from therapy is changing too. Support shouldn’t only be there when somebody reaches crisis point. Sometimes it’s about having the space to understand what you’re feeling, what you’ve experienced and how that is affecting you today. Expanding our services means we can offer that space to more people, at different stages of their lives.”

Support at different stages of life
The two new services broaden the support already available through Child in Time.
Our Parent Consultations give parents and carers the opportunity to access professional guidance and explore challenges around their child’s behaviour, development and emotional wellbeing.
Alongside this, our established School Counselling service works with schools and colleges to make therapeutic support accessible to children and young people within a familiar environment.
Together, these services reflect something increasingly important: there is no single age, situation or point in life when someone might benefit from support.
As attitudes continue to change, we want accessing counselling to feel like a positive and proactive choice, and to make it easier for children, young people, adults and families to find the right support when they need it.
